“Cereally Intolerant”

MSNBC apologizes to Right-Wing Nuts! Why?

They apologized for a tweet about the right-wings’ intolerance over a commercial; the interracial Cheerios Commercial which General Mills will once again air, this time during the Super Bowl.

But, the Conservative outrage is intolerable — again. This is not the first time the right-wing has gone nuts over this interesting and creative commercial that should offend no one. But, here we go again. The right wing nuts attacked Cheerios with intolerable racial epitaphs causing General Mills to pull the comments!

So, why did MSNBC apologize?

“Subversive Radio In L.A.”

Clear Channel silences progressive voices!

On January 2nd KTLK 1150 radio in Los Angeles changed its format and call letters and dumped the progressive voices of Stephanie Miller, Randi Rhodes, and David Cruz.

Instead of Progressive Talk Radio in Los Angeles they’ve moved to the seditious and repressive Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, and someone named Doc Thompson.

Another step toward Fascism?

“Isolated From the Truth”

America’s news organizations are failing the people!

Journalism in America has become as big a problem for the country as Congress. Media conglomerates’ fail to meet their obligations under the Constitution of the United States. It’s almost impossible to escape their control of the news content. And it’s getting worse.

Their failure has left the nation vulnerable to an historical decline.

Freedom of the press was included in the 1st Amendment by the founders as a check on government to insure the preservation of our democracy.

Is our precious democracy at risk?

“A Rush To Irrelevance!”

The rant against women was a new low in Rushbo radiology.

There’s nothing more disgusting than to listen to the misogynistic rants of a fat bigoted drug addict. But Rush Limbaugh’s recent series of rants, calling Georgetown law student a ‘slut’ and a ‘whore,’ are not only disturbing, but low even for him!

His attack on Sandra Fluke, the brave young woman who was refused the opportunity to testify by an uncaring, and basically ignorant, Representative Darrell Issa, (R-CA49) in the hearing he held on contraception, was not only uninformed, but incendiary.

Limbaugh is, indeed, a pimple on America’s ass.

“Wisconsin: A Turning Point For Democracy?”

Newly posted article on The Huffington Post. To view this on HuffPo click on the link.

**************************************

The Recall elections in Wisconsin in August are a test of our democracy.

The first two battles have been waged in Wisconsin and, if the opening clashes are any indication, ‘the people’ are going to take back the Badger State.

Last Tuesday, the first recall election was held in Wisconsin’s 30th District and Wisconsinite’s overwhelmingly reelected incumbent, Dave Hansen, over Republican challenger, David Vanderleest.

Similarly, the week before, all six Democratic hopefuls won easy elections over faux Democrat candidates in a forced primary election that will cost the taxpayers of Wisconsin nearly $500,000 dollars. Running fake candidates was a costly, and unethical, political ploy to give Republican candidates more time to raise money, campaign, and muddy the process in the upcoming recall elections in six Republican held districts.

Will this tactic backfire on the Republicans?

“The Failure of the 4th Estate”

Media conglomerates are destroying American democracy!

Giant media corporations have altered the concept of a ‘Free Press.’ Their failure to uphold the tenets of the 4th estate is contributing to the erosion of our precious democracy.

The problem lies in ownership, or lack thereof.

We, ‘the people,’ no longer own the airwaves having allowed Congress to sell that freedom to profit hungry media groups—inextricably obligated to their investors—creating a press that is no longer free, and, in many cases, conspiratorial in the attempts to tear down democracy.

Both weakness and bias in the media have been obvious for a considerable time but no one wants to attack it straight on!

Have we abandoned the search for truth—bowing to the hunt for profits?

“The Political Talk World Is Shaken By MSNBC”

This article was posted on The Huffington Post on Tuesday, Jan 25. click on link to read it on HuffPost.

***********************

There was a deafening silence across the land, then a rising cacophony!

In a sudden and bold move on Friday night MSNBC delivered a big blow to free speech. Within seconds of the end of Countdown the internet was atwitter with news of Keith Olbermann’s sudden curtain call at MSNBC.

The news surprised Countdown’s audience and shocked the media.

There have been many stories written since the Friday night announcement; attempts to explain possible reasons for Olbermann’s departure. They included his recent suspension, his stormy relationship with NBC management, the merger with Comcast, and his liberal voice.

None of it will become clear until the termination of any non-disclosure agreements between Keith and MSNBC.

Olbermann had become the voice for liberal media—the counter balance to the bias of Fox and NewsCorp.

Vilified by the right for his passionate liberal views, his popularity with progressives became the model for MSNBC’s prime time line-up. That popularity helped bring voices like Maddow, Schultz, O’Donnell, and Ratigan to the public.

Olbermann’s Countdown was gaining market share in the same time slot as Fox’s Bill O’Reilly, and with it came more vitriolic attacks from fans of Fox. On the Thursday before Friday’s announcement Countdown attracted over 1.1 million viewers. He aggressively called out Fox hosts for their lies and hypocrisy which in turn drew accusations of hypocrisy, and lies from his detractors.

Those attacks were unfounded given the fact-based reporting on Countdown, a model that is evident throughout the MSNBC line-up and generally non-existent on the comparable shows on Fox. There seems to be no interest in presenting information based in fact at Fox and the chastised main stream media is reluctant to point that out.

Quick Hit: “Bernie Goldfarb, The Laughter Never Stops!”

Last week, on one of his shows, Jon Stewart did what he does best. He exposes people and organizations for their stupidity.

Once again it was the faux journalists from Fox’s fair and unbalanced news shows. One of the featured characters, Bernie Goldfarb, took offense and called out Jon for his comedic sarcasm and explains to Jon that if he wants to be a “Social Commentator” he needs to find some guts.

Obviously Bernie learned nothing from Stewart’s embarrassing dissection of Jim Cramer. If he had he surely wouldn’t have made the mistake that Cramer made. But you have to say it took guts for Bernie to spar with “The Great One.” This exchange is equally entertaining. You gotta watch it.

Seriously, Bernie, to generalize in your diatribe that I, as a viewer of the daily show, am unsafisticated and will laff at anything he says is truly an insult and uncalled for. I represent that remark. Generally speaking, Bernie, I think, as a 62 year old, intelligent caucasian, possessing an uncommon amount of common sense—an element seemingly absent from the tea party events—that I can determine when something is funny and when to laugh.

I will admit, being a disabled veteran, (an amputee) that walking in circles is a little disturbing, even to me. But I’m sure that you won’t generalize that because I’m lacking a limb, “I’m not all there.”

Thank you, Bernie Goldfarb, for your insight. I’ll give it some thought when I watch The Daily Show tomorrow night searching vainly for some good social commentary.

Quick Hit: “Maddeaux, Who Dat in the Big Easy?”

On Friday, Rachel Maddow (Maddeaux), and, Kent Jones, traveled to the delta to do her show from New Orleans.

It was a great idea and a great show that captured their resiliency, vibrance, and spirit. It also exhibited their excitment and enthusiasm for their Saints!

Who Dat? The New Orleans Saints, Dat’s Who!

Her guests included Dr. Norman Francis, President of Xavier University of Louisiana, who gave a brief history of bringing the Saints to New Orleans and the difficulties the city and the team had to overcome. Included a look at the levies with John Barry,  and discussion of the years of erosion caused upriver. Kent took us on a culinary adventure forcing us to watch him enjoy and incredible Po Boy sandwich. And Grammy Award winner Terrance Blanchard and bass player David Pulphus took us out, and on our way to the Super Bowl with a rousing version of “When the Saints Go Marching In.”

I’m sure that video of the show will be posted on The Rachel Maddow Show web site soon.

If you didn’t catch it live you can see it before the Super Bowl.

And after the game you might be yellin—Who Dat?
