“Emasculating the Debates”

This article has been posted on The Huffington Post. Click on the link to read it at Huff Post.

*******************************

Millions were focused on the Vice Presidential Debate.

The first two debates were emasculating, first to Obama in the Presidential debate, then for Ryan in last week’s Vice Presidential encounter.

The importance of this second, usually benign exercise, was heightened by the lackluster performance of President Obama in the first debate — a night I’m sure he wishes he could do over.

The contrast between the first two debates was obvious and so was the spin. But, for reasonable people, Vice President Biden was effective at pointing out the deficiencies of not only his opponent, but the Romney/Ryan ticket — something the President failed to accomplish in the previous battle.

Was there a winner in Thursday’s debate?

“A Colorless Convention”

Republicans try to paint a more colorful self-portrait!

Last week in Tampa, a pretentious Republican party officially nominated their candidate for the office of President. They hoped to arouse their base and make the ticket more pleasing to the American voters.

Trailing by large margins in key voting groups — women, African Americans, Hispanics, gays — Republicans marched out token minority speakers to present themselves as a party of diversity; a party of color.

But is this the real Republican Party?

“Paul Ryan: A Gift to Democrats”

This article has been posted on The Huffington Post on August 27.

**************************************

Ryan is Romney’s choice for his 2012 running mate.

Just over a week ago Republican Presidential hopeful, Mitt Romney, selected, Representative Paul Ryan, from Wisconsin’s 1st District to be his Vice President.

The selection was a surprise to many on both the right and the left. Most had narrowed the field down to Senator Rob Portman or the ex-Governor from Minnesota, Tim Pawlenty.

Was the professed deficit hawk a good choice?

“Which War Is Next?”

Romney promises to unleash the wrath of the U.S. on Iran!

At a recent campaign stop, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Conference in Reno, Nevada, Romney told an enthusiastic crowd that he would wield America’s $760 billion military might around the world, including a military solution in Iran.

This drew elevated applause from the ex-military audience, long separated from the ravages of war. The perfect gathering for a draft-dodging, war-mongering, right-wingnut like Romney?

Another war? Are you serious?

“The Two Faces of Mitt”

Mitt Romney has a problem connecting with ‘real’ people.

He’s been chosen to represent the Republican Party, having tied up the delegates a couple of weeks ago in Texas. Now he’s finding it difficult to change his strategy — and his message. He thinks he can do that with an Etch-a-Sketch.

But, the nominee of the Republican Party is still having difficulty convincing people of his sincerity despite being the presumptive nominee for several months.

Even to his own party — a party that has been slow to rally behind their newly nominated candidate — struggles with Mitt.

Why can’t the successful businessman gain traction?

“It’s Not Envy, My Friend”

This article has been posted on The Huffington Post. Click on the link to read it on HuffPost.

************************

The Republican candidate thinks we’re all envious of him.

Romney feels that envy of his financial success, the envy of income inequality, is the driver of the current uprising against wealth — the driver of ‘class warfare.’ He also believes that envy is the reason for the anti-Romney movement of those opposing his candidacy. But the class warfare he alludes to is not generated by envy.

It’s only a talking point emanating from Romney himself to deflect from his obvious deficiencies and to fire up the Republican base.

True, some individuals are probably envious, but, is it envy that causes so many to dislike him?

“A Path to Poverty!”

Paul Ryan’s budget plan will put America on a fast path to poverty.

Poverty in America is rising! And it’s getting uglier.

The country is dying: infrastructure decaying, housing decimated, politics corrupt, media biased, the rich greedy and dispassionate, wars suffocating—and that’s on a good day.

Though an eternal optimist it becomes increasingly difficult to find many positives in the current environment.

Especially when we learn that by the end of 2009, 43.6 million people were living in poverty which raises the level to 14.3% of our population. That number surely increased in 2010 while Jaime Dimon, Lloyd Blankfein, and their colleague’s pay increased by several millions.

How many houses do they need? How many cars?
