Is the Tea Party poisoning the Grand Old Party?

Republicans have never been particularly good at governing, but the Tea Party makes it impossible.

Life has become difficult for the Republican Party as their base — mostly old, Fox-watching white people — is fading into oblivion. A base easily stirred up over third rail issues and easy to convince to vote against their own best interest.

The advent of the Tea baggers in 2010, The Madhatter’s Tea Party,” has made things even worse. The political train is racing past Republicans and they don’t have a ticket to climb on board.

Where do they go from here?

“Corporate Loopholes”

This article has been posted on The Huffington Post on 8/20.

************************************

Corporations are whining about taxes — still!

For years American corporations have bemoaned their high corporate taxes while fleecing the American people and watching the country fall apart.

We were warned about the potential evil of corporations years ago by Dwight D. Eisenhower as he left office — telling us to beware of the military-industrial complex and what it would do to our country.

To our freedom. To our happiness and well-being.

Was Eisenhower a visionary?

“UnReasonable Doubt”

Child murderer George Zimmerman was acquitted in Florida!

A jury of six women — five white — exonerated George Zimmerman after the self-professed neighborhood watchman pursued Trayvon Martin through the hood and shot him!

The case was closely observed. Whites and blacks, mothers and fathers, liberals and conservatives, the legal community, pundits, gun violence advocates, and those opposed to guns anxiously awaited the outcome. The country was deeply divided.

Not Guilty? Really?

“Right-Wing Wars”

This article was posted on The Huffington Post July 24th. Click on link to view on Huff Post.

*******************************

Republicans are engaged in a domestic war.

On the national level and in state legislature after state legislature rights and freedoms are being usurped by right-wing zealots who falsely invoke the Constitution and Christianity.

For a party that claims a strong desire for limited government and personal freedom, Republicans’ inject themselves into the lives of others with complete disregard for their well-being or right to personal freedoms.

Are Republicans’ inherently hypocrites?

“The Company You Keep”

In a democracy power must be restrained from time to time.

When the government begins to act in ways contrary to the will of ‘the people,’ in opposition to the health and well-being of the governed, ‘the people’ shall — must — rise up in opposition to the tyrannical elements in power.

The movie, “The Company You Keep,” is about a previous time of unrest, a time when our government overstepped its bounds and recklessly used its citizens for feckless purposes. A time when the youth rose up and challenged our government’s authority; especially the authority to wage war.

But the film not only showed the necessity of revolt then, but the similarities of our circumstances now.

Have we reached the point of revolt again?

“Still Ascending”

This is the 2nd article The Huffington Post has posted that I’ve written on Angel, Mike Trout.

*****************************

Mike Trout’s ascendancy last year was a pleasure to watch!

He not only provided a welcome excitement to the Angels near miss season, but, along with Mark Trumbo, provided the spark that got the team going.

How can anyone who had a near MVP season like Mike Trout continue to perform at a level that ignites a team, energizes the fans, and awes the league?

Well baseball fans, he’s doing it again!

“SNAP Judgement”

Republicans’ are dying to kill the Food Stamp Program!

As a part of the farm bill Republicans push to strip $20 billion from SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) leaving as many as two million people hungry in the richest nation in the world.

The cuts, two billion dollars a year, will also knock 200,000 children off the school lunch program. At a time when education is eroding throughout the country the right-wing believes leaving thousands of students hungry is the answer.

So what happened to humanity?

“Sour Apples”

This article is the 91st to be published on The Huffington Post.

***************************

Apple’s reincarnation has been utterly amazing!

The computer giant has achieved enormous wealth despite being counted for dead in the late 1990s. It now stands as one of the most innovative and richest corporations in the world after the return of the legendary Steve Jobs.

Apple was, and is the poster child for capitalism — a success story that eclipses all others.

But Apple’s image is beginning to tarnish!

“Scandalous”

This article has been published on The Huffington Post. To view it at Huff Post click on the link.

*****************************

Everyone loves a good political scandal!

There are three scandals in Washington — at the same time — any one of which Republicans believe could bring down the Obama Administration!

Political scandals can fill the news cycle for hours on end. Juicy new details can keep it in the media for days. Fictional facts can drag it out for weeks.

A minor problem, a lapse in judgement, a mistake that can be easily fixed is not exciting. A party filibustering everything introduced by the President isn’t, unfortunately, interesting.

But a Scandal?

“In Our Sights”

The Senate voted on gun control and ‘we’ lost!

When the Senate reconvened after another ‘vacation’ one of the most important (pieces) of business was gun control — especially the Manchin-Toomey expansion of background checks which had received so much press.

As the Senators cast their votes it became obvious that the bill was not going to pass. Forty-six Senators voted against it despite polls showing that as many as 90% of us wanted to at least expand background checks.

Dispassionate legislators,’ who couldn’t see the value in saving citizens lives, and more specifically the lives of our children, voted against it, despite 4,000 gun related murders since the violence in Newtown.

How many more slaughtered will it take?
