“Snorting Koch”

Is Plutocracy imminent for America?

As we approach the 2014 elections there are right-wing politicians running for offices throughout the country that have been bought and sold by the perfidious Koch Brothers, who have no desire to be part of this great country, only to use it to amass enough wealth to manipulate it and create a Plutocracy.

There’s no shortage of politicians willing to sell their integrity to people like the Koch’s to remain in office; willing to lie to retain a false sense of power and authority.

How do we fight this insidious malignancy?

“A Harmful Proposition: 32”

California has 11 propositions on the ballot this year!

As in every election, one of the most difficult tasks for voters is wading through the cumbersome initiatives that various organizations place on the ballot.

This year in California there are a few that have become controversial, adversarial, and heavily financed. Californians are inundated by fliers, brochures, and television ads costing millions of dollars funded by Special Interest Groups.

It becomes increasingly difficult to wade through the minutiae to formulate an informed opinion.

So what’s the answer?

“Make ’Em Pay!”

This article has been posted on The Huffington Post on 7/18.

******************************

Corporations and the wealthy are trying to buy elections from “the people.

What’s the cost to purchase the Presidency today, or a Senator or two? Or maybe a Representative or Supreme Court Judge?

Hell, what does it cost to buy the whole damn Congress; or at least a majority of it?

The Citizens United ruling, rendered by a suspect Supreme Court, has allowed our democratic elections to be sold to the highest bidder, and with it our democracy — our freedom.

How does this effect our future?

“No Longer Supreme!”

This article on the Supreme Court has been posted to The Huffington Post.

Respect for the judicial black robe is eroding!

Recent decisions by the Supreme Court have brought the integrity of this court under scrutiny.

From Bush v. Gore, to eminent domain, to Citizens United, to body searches, to ethics problems, a greater number of the nation’s highest court’s rulings defy common sense and judicial principles.

And it could get even worse!

Does money in politics subvert our precious democracy?

Would you pay $1.00 per month to get rid of PAC’s, SuperPAC’s, and the ungodly amount of money being funneled into federal political campaigns?

It is estimated that more than $3,000,000,000 will be spent in the 2012 election. Outrageous! The cost of elections has spun out of control and must be reined in.

Money is not the root of all evil, but its corrosive influence was evident in the 2010 elections; a malignancy that will be even more destructive in this electoral cycle.

Though money in politics was a problem long before the Citizens United ruling, the Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision desecrated the 1st Amendment and is infecting our democratic elections — the cornerstone of a healthy, vibrant democracy.

So how can we reverse the Supreme Court’s mistake and get money out of politics?

“The Supreme Joy of Citizens United”

This article has been posted on The Huffington Post. Click on the link to read it at Huff Post.

***********************

The Citizens United decision was an egregious blow to democracy.

Republicans applauded the Supreme Court ruling in January, 2010 seeing an opportunity to spend millions of dollars to destroy the liberal message and Democratic candidates without repercussions and incarceration.

They are now feeling the unintended consequences of the wrongful interpretation of law forced on the American people by 5 men in black robes. A partisan attempt to manipulate elections; a dishonorable maneuver that set election law back 100 years.

But, their attempt to influence elections, to legislate from the bench, has backfired!

“Recall the Wisconsin Six!”

Wisconsin’s recall election has become a national event!

Wisconsinites are angry over new Governor Scott Walker’s deception and are not only voicing their opinion outside the Capitol in Madison, but taking their grievances to the ballot boxes.

Democrats in the Badger State successfully petitioned the recall of six Republican Senators who will be challenged for their Senate seats next month in a special election. The Democrats easily collected more signatures than were required for the Government Accountability Board to certify the results.

Not to be outdone, Republicans, with the help of out-of-state signature gathering agencies and buying signatures, managed to get three Democrats on the ballot.

Why are the Wisconsin people doing this?

“Wisconsinites Strike the First Blow!”

This article was posted on The Huffington Post. Click on the link to read it on HuffPost.

**************************

The Supreme Court election in Wisconsin was the first battle in a protracted fight for democracy!

Wisconsin voters, angered by recent political developments in Wisconsin, turned out at the polls in huge numbers to vote for the Wisconsin Supreme Court candidates, David Prosser and JoAnne Kloppenburg. Wisconsin has become the battleground for the middle-class.

What appeared to be an easy reelection for incumbent Supreme Court Justice, David Prosser, ended up being a dead heat with newcomer, Assistant District Attorney, JoAnne Kloppenburg, the apparent winner by 204 votes. Kloppenburg recovered from a 30% deficit in the non-partisan election just two months ago. Nearly one-and-a-half-million voters cast their ballots on Wednesday.

This was a clear referendum against the anti-union stance taken by Scott Walker and the Wisconsin Republicans. Other state’s Republican Governors, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Florida, and New Jersey, have pushed a similar agenda in an effort to eliminate collective bargaining rights of public unions in their states and are facing the same resistance.

“Is the Chamber of Commerce a Subversive Organization?”

This new article was posted this morning on The Huffington Post and addresses the problems our democracy now faces after the horrendous ruling of the Supreme Court in the Citizens United case.

**************************

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce campaigns against democracy and America!

With elections only days away this headline should run everyday in newspapers, magazines, on television and cable and shouted on the radio, accompanied by articles and segments naming the corporations like Dow Chemical, Prudential Insurance, Chevron Texaco, Goldman Sachs, and Aegon, exposing the millions of dollars they’ve given to the Chamber which has been converted to partisan ads, many of them dishonestly negative.

Recent actions of the Chamber of Commerce risk causing irreversible damage to our economy and our precious democracy!

Thanks to the Citizens United ruling by the Supreme Court eight months ago the Chamber of Commerce is pumping millions of dollars into mid-term campaigns—dollars meant to  influence close races throughout the country—without having to name the donors.

Their actions are negatively affecting the very democracy they claim to embrace and instead of helping small businesses the candidates they’re supporting could destroy them.
