“In Our Sights”

The Senate voted on gun control and ‘we’ lost!

When the Senate reconvened after another ‘vacation’ one of the most important (pieces) of business was gun control — especially the Manchin-Toomey expansion of background checks which had received so much press.

As the Senators cast their votes it became obvious that the bill was not going to pass. Forty-six Senators voted against it despite polls showing that as many as 90% of us wanted to at least expand background checks.

Dispassionate legislators,’ who couldn’t see the value in saving citizens lives, and more specifically the lives of our children, voted against it, despite 4,000 gun related murders since the violence in Newtown.

How many more slaughtered will it take?

“A Message From Newtown”

This is not over!

Last week, the Senate failed to pass the Manchin-Toomey Universal Background Check Amendment even though 90% of Americans favored its passage.

Forty-six Senators prevented the passage of a gun control legislation, albeit weak, aimed at reducing the carnage this country is experiencing each and every day! More than thirty people die in America everyday, more than 30,000 each year — the victims of gun related deaths.

The families traumatized by the horrendous massacre of 20 six year olds, and six teachers and administrators responsible for protecting these precious human beings, lobbied Senators pleading that they vote for this one piece of legislation that could spare other parents the anguish they’re experiencing.

Were these grieving parents asking too much?

“A Political Deficit”

The fiscal situation is not the only deficit infecting this country.

Congress’s approval rating is a shocking ten percent. It’s lowest approval rating since they began keeping track in 1974 and, given the current political climate, there doesn’t appear to be any chance for improvement in the near future.

The reason for this low approval can be traced to the very sources of the problem and in order to fix it we must first expose what and who caused it to fall below the approval of Communism and Used Car Salesmen.

On issue after issue, as Yogi Berra so aptly put it, “It’s déja vu all over again.”

Is this low approval rating deserved?

“An Assault On Our Welfare”

It is far past the time to stop the gun insanity!

The NRA’s misinterpretation of the 2nd Amendment is killing innocent Americans and Congress must stop it.

A grave mistake was made in 2004 when Congress let the Assault Weapons Ban expire. It’s time they correct their legislative dereliction, Now!

We need common sense in our gun laws and ‘we the peopleowe it to the children of Sandy Hook to demand swift and immediate action from Congress.

If not now, then when?

“I Didn’t Know Gabby, But I’d Like To!”

Gabby Giffords is strong, she’s a fighter and someone I’d like to know!

On Saturday afternoon, January 8th, in Tucson, Arizona Congresswoman Giffords’s life was suddenly interrupted; tragically changed in a heartbeat by a cacophony of gunfire.

For the next few days her husband Mark and the entire country waited with bated breath while she went through surgical procedures to save her life.

It didn’t matter, at the time, what party she was from—what mattered was her life, the medical procedures, and her hopeful recovery.

As more information was released about the tragedy, hearts grew heavier and discourse more acetic.

In the confusion 13 people would be injured, six would lose their lives, and Gabby’s hung in the balance.
