“A Message From Newtown”

This is not over!

Last week, the Senate failed to pass the Manchin-Toomey Universal Background Check Amendment even though 90% of Americans favored its passage.

Forty-six Senators prevented the passage of a gun control legislation, albeit weak, aimed at reducing the carnage this country is experiencing each and every day! More than thirty people die in America everyday, more than 30,000 each year — the victims of gun related deaths.

The families traumatized by the horrendous massacre of 20 six year olds, and six teachers and administrators responsible for protecting these precious human beings, lobbied Senators pleading that they vote for this one piece of legislation that could spare other parents the anguish they’re experiencing.

Were these grieving parents asking too much?

“Recall the Wisconsin Six!”

Wisconsin’s recall election has become a national event!

Wisconsinites are angry over new Governor Scott Walker’s deception and are not only voicing their opinion outside the Capitol in Madison, but taking their grievances to the ballot boxes.

Democrats in the Badger State successfully petitioned the recall of six Republican Senators who will be challenged for their Senate seats next month in a special election. The Democrats easily collected more signatures than were required for the Government Accountability Board to certify the results.

Not to be outdone, Republicans, with the help of out-of-state signature gathering agencies and buying signatures, managed to get three Democrats on the ballot.

Why are the Wisconsin people doing this?

Quick Hit: “Against the Will of the People!”

Wisconsin Republicans have started the revolution!

With slick, fascist type swiftness, 18 Senators reversed 50 years of good politics against the will of the citizens.

The late night antic has not really gotten out to the citizens yet, but the anger will be elevated when Wisconsinites awaken to the news.

It is now clear that Scott Walker is the front man for this Republican/Fascist grab for power, stripping union rights from hard-working people. Americans will not tolerate this threat to democracy.

The way the conference was handled, the way Majority Leader Fitzgerald conducted the meeting was not only unlawful, but was an ugly example of fascism.  Fitzgerald was unwilling to listen to the impassioned argument of Representative Peter Barca who, by-way-of a letter from the current Republican Attorney General, point out the illegality of the Senator’s actions.

I asked in “A Fascist Regime in Wisconsin?” Is Senator Fitsgeralds a fascist?

“A Half-Fast Bill and Premature Evacuation!”

Powerful Financial Regulation would be good for all Americans!

The Senate passed their version of financial regulation, (S.3217) ‘The Restoring American Financial Stability Act of 2010.’ It now moves to conference to be melded with the House Bill, (HR4173) officially called ‘The Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2009,’ which passed the House 223-202.

Majority Leader, Harry Reid, with the help of Democrats and a few Republicans, in a moment of premature evacuation brought a half-fast piece of legislation to the floor without addressing or revisiting some of the most important amendments up for consideration.

Despite passing with a vote of 59 to 39, the Bill is weak and falls far short of its potential of fixing a messed up banking system, economy, the gambling on derivatives, and the Federal Reserve. Several amendments were added to strengthen the bill, but some of the most important failed to pass or were not brought up for vote. And there is little hope that it will get fixed in Conference.

Conferencing of the Bill will be conducted by Senators Shelby, Chambliss, Lincoln and Representative Barney Frank and a few others. But is it salvageable?
